La Fortuna Waterfall is a very beautiful place surrounded by lush rainforest and crystal clear waters. It is a very flexible place to visit, since it is possible to enjoy the entire place in 1 or 2 hours.
It is a natural reserve that is currently administered by the Integral Development Association of La Fortuna (ADIFORT). It is located only 6 kilometers from La Fortuna downtown. The 230 ft. high waterfall is located within the territory of the Arenal Volcano National Park, right at Los Perdidos and Cerro Chato mountains base. La Fortuna River, which is the origin of this waterfall, makes a long journey by Tilarán mountain range, then nearby La Fortuna and ending up at the Peñas Blancas River.
The path to go inside the waterfall reserve consists in almost 500 steps going down. The peace and majesty of nature will make you enjoy its waters and the scenic beauty of the place. The site has infrastructure in excellent conditions, among the services offered, you can find: ample and safe parking lot, bathrooms, showers, souvenir shop, restaurant, viewpoints, 2 short paths (hummingbirds and orchids) and 1 main trail to the waterfall, Areas for swimming and rest benches.
Once in La Fortuna, there are several ways to get to La Fortuna Waterfall, it will depend on your wishes and budget. You can get there by taxi for an approximate price of $10 from La Fortuna downtown. There are also ATVs, bikes and even horseback riding tours which you can arrange in advance.
Finally, if you are a hiking lover, you can do it to, since there are just 4 miles from downtown and according your physical conditions, you can spend 1 hour or even less time.
