How to get to La Fortuna

La Fortuna town is a district located in the northern region of the country, 17 kilometers east from Arenal Lake which is the largest in the country and a site of great importance for its water resource and tourism.
From San Jose by San Ramon - Chachagua

Route #1 From San Jose by San Ramon - Chachagua

Distance: 131 kms | Approximate time: 3 hours

Drive by Panamericana highway to the city of San Ramon, and then you will turn right taking route 702 and passing through the villages of Bajo Rodriguez, La Tigra, Chachagua, El Bosque and finally arriving to the La Fortuna downtown.

From San Jose by Zarcero - Ciudad Quesada

Route #2 From San Jose by Zarcero - Ciudad Quesada

Distance: 135 kms | Approximate time: 3.5 hours

Drive by Panamericana highway to Naranjo intersection, and then you will turn right taking Route 141 and passing through Zarcero, Ciudad Quesada, Florencia, La Vega, El Tanque and finally taking the last 7 kilometers along highway 142 until you reach La Fortuna.

From Liberia Guanacaste by the Arenal Lake

Route #3 From Liberia Guanacaste by the Arenal Lake

Distance: 131 kms | Approximate time: 2.5 hours

Leave Liberia downtown, take the Panamericana highway to the town of Cañas, then you will turn left taking road 142 and passing through Los Angeles Tilaran, Nuevo Arenal and Arenal Lake until you reach La Fortuna town.

From Guapiles and Caribbean zone by Sarapiqui route

Route #4 From Guapiles and Caribbean zone by Sarapiqui route

Distance: 143 kms | Approximate time: 3 hours

Drive by Route 32 to the intersection of Rancho Roberto's, and then you will turn right into Highway 4 pasting through Puerto Viejo Sarapiquí, San Miguel, Venecia, Aguas Zarcas, Muelle until you reach the village of El Tanque, finally you will take the road 142 until you reach La Fortuna. Note: After passing Muelle and as you get the village of El Tanque, you can take a short asphalted route to the left through the village of San Jorge.
